Types of Conjunctivitis

  1. Viral Conjunctivitis:

    • Often associated with the common cold or upper respiratory infections.

    • Highly contagious and spreads through direct contact.

    • Symptoms include redness, watery discharge, and itching.

  2. Bacterial Conjunctivitis:

    • Caused by bacterial infections.

    • Leads to thick, yellow or green discharge that may cause eyelids to stick together.

    • Requires antibiotic treatment.

  3. Allergic Conjunctivitis:

    • Triggered by allergens such as pollen, dust, or pet dander.

    • Symptoms include redness, itching, and excessive tearing.

    • Not contagious and often improves with allergy management.
