Do you struggle with reading, learning, attention, migraine, concussion or head injury, or experience visual discomfort and difficulties?

If yes, you may suffer from Visual Stress.

What is Visual Stress?

Visual Stress is a neurological condition. It’s a problem with the brain’s ability to process visual information such as light, flicker, patterns, contrast, glare, colour and movement.

This causes the visual parts of the brain to overreact and can lead to many signs and symptoms, such as:

  • Reading or learning difficulties

  • Attention difficulties

  • Behavioural issues

  • Headaches or migraines

  • Cognitive fatigue, pain, nausea

  • Visual discomfort and difficulties

  • Depth perception

  • Balance and coordination issues

  • Anxiety, depression

Many neurological conditions have symptoms that overlap with Visual Stress, making it difficult to distinguish the root cause. In many cases, Visual Stress co-exists with these neurological disorders or learning difficulties. Because visual triggers are often overlooked as a contributing factor, many individuals are not getting the symptom relief they could be receiving.

Examples of related conditions where Visual Stress is commonly seen include:

Neurodevelopmental disorders:

  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD)

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Sensory Processing Disorder

  • Tourette Syndrome

  • Specific Learning Difficulties such as:

    • Dyscalculia

    • Dysgraphia

    • Dyslexia

    • Dyspraxia

Neurological disorders:

  • Chronic Fatigue

  • Chronic post-trauma headache

  • Migraine

  • Photosensitive Epilepsy

  • Vestibular Disorders

  • PPPD - persistent dizziness

  • Anxiety and PTSD

  • Depression

Neurological injury or disease:

  • ABI - Concussion

  • Stroke

  • Whiplash

  • Multiple Sclerosis

  • Bacterial infection

  • Viral infection
