Caring for Your Vision at Every Stage of Life
At LivingHope Vision Clinic, we’re committed to protecting and enhancing your vision with thorough, preventive eye care for every member of your family. Whether you're booking your child’s first eye exam or managing vision changes in your senior years, regular comprehensive exams are key to maintaining lifelong eye health.
Why Are Regular Eye Exams Important?
Many eye conditions develop gradually and without early symptoms. A routine exam is often the only way to detect problems before they impact your sight. Early diagnosis and treatment can help preserve vision, protect overall health, and improve your quality of life.
Our full-scope eye exams include OPTOMAP retinal imaging at every visit, allowing us to capture a detailed, ultra-widefield image of your retina without the need for dilation in most cases. This advanced technology helps us detect early signs of retinal disease, diabetes, hypertension, and more.

Age-Specific Eye Care Guidelines
Infants & Children
Children should have their first eye exam between 6–9 months, again between 2–5 years, and then yearly once they begin school. Eye exams are essential for detecting visual issues that can affect learning and development, many of which are not noticeable to parents or teachers.
Common concerns:
-
Nearsightedness or farsightedness
-
Lazy eye (amblyopia)
-
Eye coordination or tracking issues
-
Digital eye strain
Children's exams are covered by OHIP annually until age 19.
Adults (Ages 20–64)
Even if you don’t wear glasses, eye exams should be part of your routine health care. Adults should book an eye exam every 1 to 2 years, depending on risk factors such as screen time, contact lens use, medical conditions, or family history of eye disease.
Regular exams can help detect:
-
Early glaucoma or macular degeneration
-
Dry eye and digital strain
-
Hypertension or diabetes related eye changes
-
Refractive changes affecting your daily vision
Adults with eligible medical conditions are eligible for 1 exam annually.
Seniors (65+)
As we age, the risk of vision loss increases. Seniors should have annual eye exams to monitor for conditions such as:
-
Cataracts
-
Glaucoma
-
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
-
Diabetic retinopathy
Early intervention can help preserve your independence and improve quality of life.
Seniors aged 65+ are eligible for OHIP-covered exams every 18 months, or annually with eligible medical conditions.
