Signs Your Child May Need Vision Therapy: What to Watch For

As a parent, you want your child to thrive in school and daily life. However, undiagnosed vision problems can sometimes interfere with learning, coordination, and overall development.

Vision therapy can help address issues beyond the scope of glasses or contact lenses, but how can you tell if your child might benefit from it?

Here are some common signs to watch for in your child:

1. Difficulty Reading or Learning

  • Difficulty keeping their place, skipping words or lines

  • Complaining of headaches, blurry vision, or fatigue after reading

2. Trouble with Focus or Attention

  • Vision issues can mimic ADHD symptoms, like avoiding homework or struggling to complete near tasks.

3. Eye Strain or Discomfort

  • Frequent eye rubbing, complaints of eye pain

  • Double vision, squinting, or closing one eye may indicate misalignment or eye strain.

4. Poor Hand-Eye Coordination

  • Difficulty catching a ball, drawing, or writing neatly could be vision-related

  • Especially relevant for young children with poor fine motor skills.

5. Behavioral Changes

  • Avoiding reading, frustration with schoolwork, or difficulty focusing on tasks point to underlying vision issues.

6. Misaligned or Wandering Eyes

  • Strabismus (crossed eyes) or amblyopia (lazy eye) can benefit significantly from vision therapy to improve coordination and strengthen the weaker eye.

7. Problems with Visual Processing

  • Difficulty recognizing patterns, shapes, or letters, or remembering visual information indicate a delay in visual processing

What to Do If You Notice These Signs

If you suspect your child may have a vision issue, the first step is to schedule a comprehensive eye exam with an eye doctor. Unlike basic screenings at school, a full exam can uncover subtle problems related to eye coordination, focusing, or visual processing.

At LivingHope Vision Clinic, we specialize in diagnosing and treating vision problems in children. Our eye doctor may recommend a personalized vision therapy program and structured treatment designed to improve how your child’s eyes and brain work together, addressing the root causes of their challenges.

Our vision therapy programs are tailored to each child’s unique needs, helping them overcome visual challenges and achieve their full potential for a brighter future.

Don’t let vision issues hold your child back.
