What is Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy is a personalized, non-invasive program aimed to improve visual function and address issues like eye teaming, focus, and tracking. Through structured exercises, it strengthens the visual system, enhancing its efficiency and resolving dysfunctions such as double vision, lazy eye, difficulty reading, and visual fatigue.

How Does Vision Therapy Work?

Vision therapy involves a series of eye exercises and techniques tailored to the patient’s specific needs. These sessions are guided by an optometrist or vision therapist and often supplemented with at-home activities. The goal is to improve how the eyes and brain work together to process visual information.

Tools commonly used in vision therapy include:

  • Specialized Lenses: Often used during exercises to enhance focus and eye alignment.

  • Prisms: Used to temporarily improve eye coordination and alignment.

  • Eye Patches:Used in active therapy to strengthen and train the weaker eye.

  • Digital or Physical Activities: Games, puzzles, and software that target visual processing skills and various eye motor skills.

What are the conditions that Vision Therapy can treat?

Vision therapy is particularly effective for:

  1. Amblyopia (Lazy Eye): Strengthening the weaker eye to improve its function.

  2. Strabismus (Crossed Eyes): Enhancing coordination between the eyes to align them properly.

  3. Convergence Insufficiency: Difficulty focusing on close objects, often causing eye strain or double vision

  4. Learning-Related Vision Problems: Helping individuals with visual processing issues that affect reading, writing, and learning.

  5. Post-Traumatic Vision Problems: Supporting recovery from post brain injuries or trauma that affect vision, such as concussions, stroke or other neurological insults.
